What you can experience this summer:

"On the Trail of the Constitution"

Join us in celebrating the Constitution of the Kingdom of Denmark at Koldinghus

On June 5th this year, it is 175 years since Frederik 7th signed Denmark's first constitution. The constitution is the foundation for many of the privileges we have today, such as the right to free speech and the right to vote for everyone - even though many still find the constitution's history a bit heavy. At Koldinghus, we have therefore dedicated this summer holiday to making the constitution both more fun and easier to understand for everyone. Read below to find out what you can experience:

See Frederik 7th's Constitution Pen

From Wednesday, June 5th to Sunday, October 20th, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, you can see the original pen that Frederik 7th used to sign the constitution, along with an exhibition with pictures, stories, and space for play so that everyone can participate. For the Constitution and for everyone!

A Digital Trail for the Big Ones

From Saturday, June 29th to Sunday, October 20th, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, we have developed a digital trail that primarily targets young people and adults, but older children can also participate. With a mobile phone in hand, you can follow the trail through the books and places of those who fought to introduce democracy in Denmark. You will also be presented with the three kings who lent a helping hand - but also those who opposed the ideas behind the constitution.

Activity Booklets for the Little Ones

From Saturday, June 29th to Sunday, October 20th, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, the exhibition becomes even more fun. We supplement the digital trail with a trail for the younger ones, where you are given an activity booklet with facts and space for stickers with personalities from history. Along the way, there are actors, humor, and story tellers who entertain and tell about the many events that took place around the signing of the constitution.

Meet the Actors

From Saturday, June 29th to Sunday, August 11th, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, you can meet actors like Doctor Dampe, who was imprisoned for 20 years for speaking against the autocracy. Or the farmer Peter Drevsen and his wife, who were executed for attempting to address Christian 8th to talk about abolishing the feudal bond and introduce common ownership. You can also be lucky to meet Frederik 7th, who with his personal signature abolished the autocracy and introduced the first Danish constitution.

Visit the exhibition "Princess Dresses", and be transformed into a real princess. Visit the special exhibition "Princess Dresses", where you will find a selection of royal dresses, created by Jørgen Bender (1938-1999) for H.K.H. Princess Benedikte, who is patron of Koldinghus. Here, more than 20 dresses and accessories, including a silver wedding dress, a silver anniversary dress as well as a wedding dress and the princess' formidable bridal veil, are displayed.

Be Transformed into a Princess on the Red Carpet

At the end of the exhibition, you can transform yourself into a real princess. Decorate yourself with beautiful tiaras and bouquets, and take a picture on the red carpet. We look forward to seeing your results! The activity can be experienced every day between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Create your own gallery cards! In the exhibition, you can be creative in our workshop. Continue in the Royal Workshop, where you can design and create your own gallery cards or uniforms. The Royal Workshop is open every day between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Dive into the materials and techniques. Visit the Historical Workshop, where you can dive into the materials and techniques behind H.K.H. Princess Benedikte's dresses. The Historical Workshop is open every day between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
